A Perfect Hen Weekend in Malta: Sun, Cocktails & Unforgettable Memories
Sometimes, the best send-offs before the big day call for sunshine, cocktails, and a weekend of unforgettable fun—and that’s exactly what we got in Malta! With its stunning beaches, lively nightlife, and Instagram-worthy backdrops, Malta proved to be a great destination for a hen weekend.
Getting to Malta & First Impressions
We kicked off our adventure with a smooth flight from London to Malta in June 2023. Due to a pre-booked seating issue, we were all given access to the lounge—a great way to start the trip! To top it off, a wonderful cabin crew member treated us to a cheeky glass of champagne on board. Upon arrival in Malta, we had a pre-booked mini-bus via the hotel that took us to our accommodation in just 30 minutes.
The moment we got to the hotel, we were greeted by gorgeous sunny weather and crystal-clear Mediterranean views—exactly what you want for a girls’ getaway. The island immediately gave off a relaxed yet vibrant vibe, setting the tone for an incredible weekend ahead.
Where We Stayed
For accommodation, we stayed at the Corinthia Hotel in St. George’s Bay, which turned out to be a fantastic choice for a hen group. It had everything we needed:
The Corinthia was in a great location, just a 5-minute walk to St. George’s Bay. Our rooms were large and spacious, great for pre-drinks and getting ready in. With six pools and a lido to choose from there was plenty of space to relax without feeling overcrowded, plus a spa - perfect for some pre-wedding pampering
Would we recommend it? Absolutely.
Hen Weekend Itinerary
We packed our weekend with a mix of relaxation, adventure, and party vibes—because what’s a hen do without a little bit of everything?
After checking in, we threw on our swimsuits and kicked off the trip with a few hours by the pool, well needed after an early start. The first night was a cocktail-making class at The Thirsty Barber, where the bride-to-be was dressed as a tequila bottle (since she was getting married in Mexico!). We all became expert mixologists (or at least, that’s what we told ourselves after a few rounds of daiquiris!).
No hen weekend is complete without a boat trip, and we did it in style! We booked a catamaran tour that took us to three different swimming spots, where we enjoyed snorkelling, paddleboarding, and chilling on the boat in the glorious sunshine. We even grabbed an ice cream from an ice cream boat!
Our favourite night was out in Valetta’s Strait Street, a vibrant area filled with amazing bars and restaurants. Bar hopping our way along the street led to a fun evening and the Picolo drinking game app kept us entertained all night!
We did explore Paceville’s strip on one of the evenings , however the main strip was a bit too young for us, so we gave it a miss for the rest of the trip.
Our favourite bar in St George’s Bay was White Wine and Food, a tiny chic gin bar, perfect for that first group cheers of the evening!
We did get some culture in amongst the cocktails, exploring Valetta in the day, visiting one of the 365 churches on the island and spent a morning exploring Mdina, taking in its historic charm.
Would We Recommend Malta for a Hen Weekend? 100% YES!
Malta was the perfect balance of beach, party, and relaxation, making it ideal for a hen trip. It’s easy to get around, safe, and packed with amazing spots for celebrating.
As a group of women ranging in age from 40 to 70, we felt safe, welcomed, and free to explore without concern—whether walking back from a bar at night or hopping in taxis.
Travel Tip: Bolt taxi app is widely used in Malta, so I recommend downloading that before your trip to grab taxis easily.
If you’re planning a hen weekend and want sunshine, great nightlife, and unforgettable moments, Malta is the place to go!
